Pre-Modern Seminar No 9: Fredrik Charpentier Ljungqvist

On Tuesday June 7th at 18.15 at the library of Skandinavistika Fredrik Charpentier Ljungqvist from the Center of Medieval Studies at Stockholm University will give a guest lecture especially for the Interdisciplinary network for pre-modern studies at Tartu University called:

"The Late Middle Ages: A Turning Point in the History of Europe."

He has sent us the following abstract of his lecture:

"The Late Middle Ages (c. 1300-1550) was a period of severe crises all over Europe. Devastating plague epidemics ravaged, harvest failures caused widespread famines, large-scale warfare caused great havoc in many regions. As a result, demographic crises and abandonment of settlements were experienced over most of the European continent. During the 14th and early 15th centuries Europe lost up to half its population. It was a time of upheaval leading to the fall of Feudalism, political changes, the emergence of Capitalism, religious revival, and the religious monopoly of the Roman Catholic Church. During the time frame c. 1300 to 1550 the medieval society and its structures were phased out in a Europe that was open to both Renaissance and Reformation."

The seminar will take place in the library of Skandinavistika (Ülikooli 17) at 18.15.

10.-12. maini toimub rahvusvaheline noorte filoloogide konverents

1960. aastate algusest korraldatakse Tartu Ülikooli slavistika osakonnas üliõpilaskonverentse. Teadusfoorumile panid aluse prof. Juri Lotman ja prof. Zara Mints ning järgnenud aastakümnete jooksul muutusid konverentsid unikaalseks teaduskooliks, kus formeerusid mitu põlvkonda maailmakuulsaid slaviste.
