Integration of pupils with a different mother tongue into a Czech school

The Department of Slavic Studies invites interested audiences to a lecture by Mgr. Radim Ošmera from Masaryk University (Brno, Czech Republic). The lecture (in English) will take place on 5 October at 16:15 (Lossi 3-229).

Czech schools are attended by an average of 3.5 per cent of pupils for whom Czech is not their mother tongue. This figure has risen to almost 8 per cent with the war in Ukraine. The Czech Republic provides a range of support measures for these children and their teachers. Both the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic and non-profit organisations are involved in integrating these children. This presentation will introduce the whole system of support for the linguistic and social integration of children with a different mother tongue. It will focus on its weaknesses, strengths, and inspirational aspects.

Mgr. et Mgr. Radim Ošmera studied Bohemics and Aesthetics at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno. During his studies, he worked at NESEHNUTÍ, where he worked with refugees.
