In the summer, two large book donations were made to the University of Tartu Library, adding to its existing collection of books on the classical and early modern periods.

From 21 to 24 October, Natalia Levshina from Radboud University will conduct a statistics masterclass covering Bayesian statistics with a focus on language data. The event includes both theoretical and practical sessions.

On 29-31 August, the University of Tartu Department of Scandinavian Studies will arrange an International symposium on Estonian Swedish history, culture and language in collaboration with the University of Gothenburg Department of Swedish Studies, gathering the leading experts in the field from several countries.

The 5th International Symposium on Applied Phonetics will be hosted by the University of Tartu on 30 September ‒ 2 October 2024.

The University of Tartu is hosting a series of events titled “A global and interdisciplinary perspective on using AI tools in university teaching and learning” from 15–18 October 2024.

Undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students from the University of Tartu are invited to an international student conference ”Bridges in the Baltics“, held at Vilnius University in Lithuania from 4 to 5 October 2024.

The keynote speeches of the conference are given by Bogi Takács Perelmutter (University of Kansas) (US), Anindita Banerjee (Cornell University) (US) and Meelis Friedenthal (University of Tartu) (EST).

The conference takes place 5–7 June 2024 at the Oecologicum of the University of Tartu, Juhan Liivi 2, Tartu. The sixth mass species extinction is one of the greatest ecological threats of our time. This conference focuses on cultural, subjective and semiotic approaches to extinction.
