On 7 March at 12:15, Alessandra Dezi will defend her doctoral thesis "Функции иноязычных вкраплений в интернет-дискурсе русскоязычных жителей Италии и Эстонии: сопоставительный аспект" ("Functional aspects of interlingual translanguaging in the internet communication of Russian speakers in Italy and Estonia: a comparative study") for obtaining the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Russian Language.

Led by the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Centre for Sustainable Development of the University of Tartu, a guidance material has been developed for researchers on how to conduct interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research. 

On 11 February, the University of Tartu organises the Estonian Doctoral School’s second Career Conference, The Value of a Doctoral Degree in the Job Market, in the university library.

On 13 January at 16:00, Antonina Martynenko will defend her doctoral thesis "Традиции и инновации в русской поэзии второй половины 1830-х гг.: количественное исследование" ("") for obtaining the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Russian Literature.

The Juri Lotman Fund announces its scholarship contest for graduate students from the University of Tartu, whose research carries on the tradition of Lotman and his school in semiotics and Slavic philology. In 2025, two scholarships of €600 each will be awarded: one to a master’s or doctoral student specialising in Slavic philology and another in semiotics and cultural theory. Submissions for the competition are expected by January 27, 2025. The grantees will be disclosed on Juri Lotman’s birthday, 28 February 2025.

On 29 November at 12:15, Ülo Siirak will defend his doctoral thesis "Humaniste français Marc-Antoine Muret comme commentateur de Catulle et de Pierre de Ronsard" ("French Humanist Marc-Antoine Muret as a Commentator on Catullus and Pierre de Ronsard").

In the summer, two large book donations were made to the University of Tartu Library, adding to its existing collection of books on the classical and early modern periods.
