The Juri Lotman Scholarship Competition 2025: Call for applicants among semioticians and Slavic philologists

The Juri Lotman Fund announces its scholarship contest for graduate students from the University of Tartu, whose research carries on the tradition of Lotman and his school in semiotics and Slavic philology. In 2025, two scholarships of €600 each will be awarded: one to a master’s or doctoral student specialising in Slavic philology and another in semiotics and cultural theory. Submissions for the competition are expected by January 27, 2025. The grantees will be disclosed on Juri Lotman’s birthday, 28 February 2025.

Our scholars engage in multifaceted international research in European languages, European and North American literatures, literary theory, translation studies and applied linguistics. Active cooperation with embassies and various cultural institutions gives our students the opportunity to learn with native speakers and professionals in their field. Our European languages and cultures MA programme and PhD programme welcome both local and international applicants. Moreover, everyone interested can sign up for a variety of language courses and participate in our Estonian summer school.
