Ten years ago, on 30 March 2012, the auditorium-library of the Baltistics was opened at the University of Tartu.
The festive event brought together many colleagues and guests, including the Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia in Estonia Kārlis Eihenbaums, the Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in Estonia Juozas Bernatonis, and the representatives of the Latvian Language Agency, the Lithuanian Ministry of Education and Research, and the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research, and the representatives of the University of Vilnius.
Within these ten years, we have witnessed the opening of the elective module "Baltic Cultures and Society" (24 ECTS), as well as exciting joint projects, such as the annual international student conference Bridges in the Baltics, which will take place again at the University of Warsaw this year. Furthermore, in the autumn of 2017, the rectors of the universities of Tartu, Latvia and Vilnius announced a joint scholarship competition, which aims to promote the teaching and learning of Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian language and culture. This year's final round will take place in Riga.
We would like to thank everyone who has helped with advice and energy, and congratulations to all former and current teachers and students!
Everyone interested in Latvian and Lithuanian language, culture, literature and history are always welcome to the courses of the University of Tartu College of Foreign Languages and Cultures.
