Guidelines for writing assignments

Master’s project (15 ECTS) is an analytical paper with an applied emphasis, accompanied by an applied result. The Master’s project is written in the language of the speciality, following the relevant rules of academic writing. The project is completed under the supervision of a member of teaching staff of the respective department.

The Master’s project consist of three parts:
a) theoretical-methodological framework,
b) documentation of the process of work on the project and reflection,
c) applied part. The length of the theoretical-methodological framework and reflection is approximately 20 standard pages (1 page=1800 characters).

The project is not just a research paper, translation or some other creative endeavour, but it has to be accompanied by an applied result and partners from outside of the university. As many projects (e.g., publication) are time-consuming, some stages of the project may remain uncompleted by the time of the defence of the project.

The theoretical-methodological part (approximately 5 pages) introduces the central terms used, earlier research in the field or methodological tools. The choice of the material depends on the
nature of the project. This section has to show why the project is needed and why it was undertaken in its present form.

Depending on the nature of the project, the documentation of the process of work may contain the following stages:

  • Finding partners
  • Solving the ethical and legal questions related to the project (e.g., the process of obtaining the permission of the ethics committee, the process of securing copyright, the process of obtaining permits necessary for organising events, etc.)
  • Drawing up the budget

The reflection has to cover the following points:

  • The project completed
  • The process of work and the difficulties that arose
  • The target audience and modes of application
