Night Library lasts longer than ever this spring

The Night Library will be 20 years old this year, and to celebrate this, the project will last longer than ever before – for five weeks. The Night Library opened on Monday, 15 May, at 21:00 with an opening event in the lobby of the university library, and the project will last until 18 June. Although students focus mainly on studying during this period, UTSU and the university's library organise several events during the Night Library.

Until 18 May, the Night Library is open from 9:00 until midnight from Monday to Friday, and on weekends from 12:00 to 18:00. Students have access to both second- and third-floor reading rooms as well as group study rooms, so the library can welcome nearly 1,000 learners. Just like last year, the library and the city of Tartu have installed a WiFi network in front of the library so that students can also study outside in good weather.

"This year's Night Library is indeed more eventful than usual because of its important anniversary," said Olga Einasto, Head of the UT Library's Service Department. "For example, in cooperation with the Student Union, there will be style nights on Fridays, and the university's Counselling Centre will offer workshops on several days on coping with studies during a stressful period.

Siret Siim, Vice President of the Student Body, is glad that on the occasion of an important anniversary, students will be able to get to know the library better over a longer period, and she hopes they will use this opportunity. Siim emphasised that the Night Library was created to provide students with a peaceful studying environment. "It could be especially useful for those who live in dormitories and have to share a room with other students," added Siim.

Each day of the week at the Night Library has its own theme. On Mondays, the Estonian Medical Students' Association (EAÜS) organises a health corner where all students can listen to exciting lectures on medical topics. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the students can enjoy the company of friendly therapy dogs from the Estonian Association of Assistance and Therapy Dogs. On Wednesdays, teaching staff of the year 2022 give mini-lectures. Fridays are style days.

On Wednesday, 14 June at 20.00, an ice cream truck offers the opportunity to buy ice cream in front of the university library.

This Friday (16 June) is the last style day with a summer theme. If you arrive dressed in the appropriate style, you can get sweets from the information desk.

Until 16 June, you can also participate in an exciting orientation game "ÖÖorientiir" where the participants have to find different places in the library with the help of the clues. You can find the orientation game here; various exciting prizes will be drawn among all participants.
