Colloquium Balticum XIX Tartuense: Philologia magistra vitae

The Department of Classical Philology invites all those interested in ancient literature to the conference Colloquium Balticum XIX: Philologia magistra vitae on October 12-15. The conference will take place in the conference area of Lossi 3, but it is possible to participate online as well (Zoom link).

The conference has a total of 23 oral presentations from both experienced researchers and students from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Sweden. The sections are as follows:

  • Neohumanist studies and classics
  • Humanist poetry and philology in Sweden
  • Humanist poetry in Latvia and Lithuania
  • Modern approaches to antiquity
  • Establishing canons
  • Ancient Greek authors
  • Different faces of philology
  • Teaching ancient poetry

The working languages of the conference are English and German. Find more information along with the programme on the website of the conference.

The international conference of the network uniting the classical philologists of the Baltic Sea countries will be held for the 19th time. The event has previously been held in Lund (2001, 2003, 2005, 2012, 2018), Greifswald (2002, 2006), Riga (2004, 2010, 2014), Vilnius (2008, 2011, 2016, 2021), Marburg (2013, 2019). and in Tartu (2007, 2015).
