Colloquium and Workshop

The interdisciplinary event brings together Imagology, Translation Studies and Canadian Studies. It aims to enrich the MA curricula in Translation Studies, European Languages and Cultures, and Teacher of Foreign Languages, and contribute to the research methodology course offerings of the Graduate School of Culture Studies and Arts as well as the Graduate School of Linguistics, Philosophy and Semiotics. This event, featuring scholars from Belgium, Canada, Estonia, Germany, Hungary and Turkey, takes place in two parts on two days. It begins with The Graduate Colloquium “Translating Images of Canada” on 7 May 2019 and is followed by The Doctoral Workshop “Imagological Approaches and Methods in the Humanities” on 8 May 2019.

Venue: Lossi 3-307
The event is open to MA, PhD and postdoctoral students/researchers as well as academic staff from the University of Tartu and other universities. The morning programme with three presentations concentrates on Imagology and Translation Studies in general, while the afternoon programme with four contributions applies this knowledge to the Canadian case. Contributors are established international researchers as well as promising PhD and postdoc researchers.

The event is intended for PhD and postdoctoral students/researchers in the Humanities. The half a day workshop deals with methodological aspects of image-related research. It explicitly aims at showing the added value of an imagological approach in several types of Humanities research. The contributions are set up in a way to stimulate interactivity and discussion with the participants, both conceptually and methodologically.
