Estonian intensive course

The Estonian intensive course saves the learners from having to put together their own intensive programme if they wish to learn Estonian well and also relatively fast. You don't have to worry about courses taking place at the same time or other inconveniences, because the courses in the module are designed to fit together. The courses held during the autumn semester (Sept - Dec) are usually for the level 0 > A2 and during the spring semester (Feb - May) for the level A2 > B1. It is also possible to take only one semester, e.g. learners who already have some knowledge of Estonian sometimes only participate in the spring semester.

The courses are taught on the basis of English and you will need at least a B2 level of English to participate.

Students

The intensive course is perfect for students who pursue their degree programme in Estonian, yet still need to learn the language. This may include:

  • students admitted to the University of Tartu as degree-seeking students who are enrolled in the programme of Estonian and Finno-Ugric Linguistics with no prior knowledge of Estonian;
  • students admitted to the University of Tartu as degree-seeking students who are enrolled in other degree programmes and need to advance their knowledge of Estonian to the level of B2;
  • students of other Estonian universities and higher education institutions who need to advance their Estonian and come to our courses as visiting students

Continuing education learners

The Estonian intensive course can also be taken by:

  • learners, who would like to learn the language in order to apply for any degree programme taught in Estonian at the University of Tartu but don't have the required language skills. In this case, the intensive course will be your Estonian Preparation Year
  • anyone interested in advancing their Estonian within a relatively short time period. Non-students participating as continuing education learners can sign up here.
    NB! Being accepted to the Estonian intensive course is not the same as being admitted to a degree programme at the University of Tartu. It does not include an invitation letter which is needed when applying for a D-type visa.

Continuing education learners need to pay for their studies. The tuition fee for Estonian intensive courses per semester is 1200€.
